नक्षत्र या चंद्र गृह, वैदिक ज्योतिष में प्रयुक्त आकाश के 27/28 भागों में से एक है, जिसकी पहचान उनमें स्थित प्रमुख तारों से होती है। ऐतिहासिक (मध्यकालीन) हिंदू ज्योतिष में उपयोग की पद्धति के आधार पर 27 या 28 नक्षत्रों की गणना की गई है। सर्वतोभद्र या ऐसे ही किसी चक्र का प्रयोग न किया जा रहा हो, तो नक्षत्रों की संख्या प्रायः 27 ही होती है। प्रत्येक नक्षत्र को 3°20’ के चतुर्थांशों या पादों में विभाजित किया गया है। चूंकि हर चीज़ की उत्पत्ति ध्वनि से होती है, इसलिए ये पद बनते हैं
